TECHNICIAN TEAM LEADER

 

Our Lead Technician will supervise, direct, plan, coordinate and perform a variety of duties concerned with animal health and client education in support of the North Ogden Animal Hospital medical program to assure quality care for pets and promote greater efficiency by relieving veterinarians of technical work and administrative detail. The technical staff (certified and uncertified technicians, veterinary assistants and kennel technicians) answers directly to the Technician Team Leader.This position requires 2-3 years of experience as a lead technician.

MAJOR DUTIES

·         Directs/assists technicians in their performance of a variety of technical and client education duties that facilitate the work of the practitioners, kennel assistants, groomers and the veterinary practice manager who directly or indirectly provide patient care.

·         Prepares/oversees the preparation and modification of technical staff work schedule.

·         Directs/oversees new employee and all ongoing training for technical staff.

·         Ensures that the hospital and its employees are in compliance with federal and state animal health laws and regulations, including OSHA.  Informs the veterinary practice manager of any regulatory issues or compliance concerns.

·         Oversees completion/auditing of inpatient records for completeness and accuracy of information.  Refers charts to the veterinary practice manager for questions concerning charges and to the appropriate veterinarian for questions concerning treatment.

·         Oversees completion of daily checklists, weekly maintenance logs and quality assurance programs.

·         Makes recommendations to the veterinary practice manager concerning personnel matters.  Directs on-the-job training.  Discusses disciplinary actions needed with the veterinary practice manager and assists with follow through.  Resolves informal employee complaints; provides a general explanation of the nature and basis for hospital personnel policies and procedures.  Maintains effective employee management communication.

·         Educates clients and technical staff regarding policies where required.

·         Explains and educates staff and clients on products and answers questions concerning products.

·         Schedules 4-8 hours each week for management duties.

·         Attends monthly doctor’s meetings and contributes to discussion as needed and appropriate.

·         Conducts monthly technician meetings to inform and educate staff on updates, changes and quality improvement.

·         Attend CE meetings on an annual basis.

CONTROLS OVER WORK

Works under the direct supervision of the veterinary practice manager, however, may also receive direction form veterinarians on a daily basis.  Team leader will recognize non-routine or unusual situations and refer them to the veterinary practice manager with recommended solution(s).  Work is reviewed in terms of the adequacy of services provided.

OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS

Skills and Knowledge:   Requires 2-3 years experience as a lead technician. Requires knowledge of hospital procedures outlined in the current employee manual as well as those that are implied (reasonable expectations).  Knowledge of spelling and the meaning of commonly used veterinary terminology in order to accurately enter specific information onto patient records.  Requires strong customer service and leadership skills.
